It is a document (often published in newspapers for government projects, or via private portals) that declares the client's intention to build a project. It outlines the scope of work, eligibility criteria, EMD (Earnest Money Deposit) requirements, and the strict deadlines for contractors to submit their technical and financial bids.
Practical Example
The metro railway corporation publishes an NIT in a national newspaper to construct an elevated metro station. The NIT clearly states that only contractors with an annual turnover exceeding ₹500 Crores and past experience building railway infrastructure are legally eligible to purchase the tender documents and submit a bid.
