Definition

A Material Delivery Challan (MDC) or Goods Receipt Note (GRN) is the primary document used in inventory management. It acts as the legal proof of delivery. When a supplier truck arrives at the construction site, the storekeeper physical verifies the quantities and quality of the goods against the original Purchase Order, and creates an MDC to formally inject those goods into the site's inventory.

Practical Example

A supplier delivers 500 bags of cement, but 10 bags burst during transit. The site storekeeper signs the driver's waybill noting the damage. Inside the inventory system, the storekeeper generates an MDC for only 490 accepted bags. The accounts team will only pay the supplier for these 490 bags, preventing financial loss.

Application in Superwise

The Superwise Inventory module allows storekeepers to create digital MDCs via a mobile app instantly upon truck arrival. The system automatically links the MDC to the corresponding Purchase Order (PO) and instantly updates the live stock ledger. Accounts cannot process a supplier’s Purchase Bill unless an approved MDC exists in Superwise.
