Definition

Scaffolding is an essential temporary modular structure—traditionally made of bamboo in older Indian construction, but strictly mandated as interlocking steel pipes (like Cuplock systems) in modern safety codes. It is erected to provide a safe, stable working platform for laborers (like plasterers, bricklayers, and painters) to access the exterior facade of a building safely at great heights.

Practical Example

To paint the exterior of an 8-story building, the facade contractor erects a massive steel scaffolding system encasing the entire tower. They lay metal planks across the steel pipes so the painters can walk safely along the 8th floor exterior, while safety netting is tied around the scaffolding to prevent dropped tools from hitting pedestrians below.

Application in Superwise

Scaffolding is a major equipment rental cost. In Superwise, the rental of Cuplock scaffolding materials is tracked daily via the "Equipment & Plant" module. When the exterior painting task is marked 100% complete in the Daily Progress Report, the system can alert the site manager to immediately dismantle and return the scaffolding to stop accumulating daily rental charges.
