Definition

In the Indian construction industry, a "Brass" is a traditional, non-metric unit of volumetric measurement widely used for bulk, loose materials such as sand, crushed stone aggregate, and excavated earth. One brass is mathematically equal to 100 cubic feet (10 ft x 10 ft x 1 ft).

Practical Example

A building contractor orders river sand for brickwork masonry. The supplier delivers it in a standard 6-wheel dump truck. The site supervisor measures the inner dimensions of the truck's cargo box and calculates it as 300 cubic feet. They then log the receipt in the inventory register as exactly 3 Brass of sand.

Application in Superwise

Superwise handles complex unit conversions effortlessly. While a supplier might bill in Brass, the design mix might consume materials in cubic meters (Cu.m) or tons. Within Superwise’s material master, developers define conversion factors so that checking in "3 Brass" automatically updates the inventory balance in metric tons.
