Definition

An Extension of Time (EoT) is a formal modification to the project contract that moves the official completion deadline to a later date. Contractors apply for an EoT when they suffer delays that are NOT their fault—such as late design drawings from the client, unusually severe monsoons, or national strikes. A granted EoT protects the contractor from paying Liquidated Damages (penalty fines).

Practical Example

A contractor is scheduled to finish a bridge in December. In July, a supplier strike causes a severe cement shortage across the state for 30 days. The contractor submits an EoT claim backed by news reports and site logs. The client approves the claim, formally shifting the project deadline to late January without charging any delay penalties.

Application in Superwise

Superwise ensures contractors have the data required to defend EoT claims. Since all daily delays and hindrances must be logged in the digital Daily Progress Report (DPR), the Project Manager has instant access to an irrefutable, timestamped log of every rain day, drawing delay, and material shortage to attach to their formal EoT application.
