Definition

While JCB is actually a British manufacturing company (J.C. Bamford), in India the brand name has become a genericized term synonymous with "Backhoe Loaders". A Backhoe Loader is the most ubiquitous piece of heavy equipment on Indian sites, capable of excavating trenches with its rear arm and moving bulk materials like sand or debris with its front bucket.

Practical Example

Before the foundation work begins, the site engineer calls in a "JCB" for two days. On day one, the operator uses the rear backhoe to precisely dig the 1.5m deep trenches for the strip foundation. On day two, they swivel around and use the massive front bucket to clear the excavated dirt into waiting dump trucks.

Application in Superwise

Heavy equipment is a major project cost. In Superwise, site supervisors log the daily hours and diesel consumption of equipment like Backhoe Loaders. The system multiplies these operating hours by the rental rate agreed upon in the Work Order, generating accurate, automated equipment leasing bills free of manual padding.
