Definition

Kota stone is a naturally occurring, fine-grained variety of limestone quarried primarily in Kota, Rajasthan. It is famous across India for its exceptional toughness, non-slip texture, and low cost. It is heavily utilized for flooring in high-traffic commercial areas, industrial corridors, building staircases, and hospital pathways.

Practical Example

Instead of expensive vitrified tiles, the architect specifies rough-polished Kota stone for the heavily trafficked emergency fire-escape stairwells of a 20-story commercial tower. The Kota stone provides a durable, anti-slip surface that will withstand decades of heavy use without chipping.

Application in Superwise

Kota stone is often procured by area or weight and requires labor-intensive manual polishing on-site. Superwise tracks both the material procurement (stone slabs) and the labor sub-contracts (laying and multi-coat floor polishing) separately, giving the PM a true, blended square-foot cost of the finished Kota flooring.
