Definition

A Quantity Surveyor (QS) is the financial watchdog of a construction project. They are technically trained professionals whose primary job is to extract precise measurements from architectural blueprints to build the exact Bill of Quantities (BOQ). During execution, the QS physically measures site progress and strictly audits the contractor's RA Bills to ensure the client is only paying for work actually done.

Practical Example

Before the tender process, the QS meticulously calculates that the project requires exactly 12,450 cubic meters of concrete. Eight months into construction, when the contractor submits a bill claiming they poured 13,000 cubic meters, the QS audits the Measurement Book, proves the contractor over-measured, and slashes the invoice back down to the accurate volume.

Application in Superwise

Superwise is the ultimate operating system for the QS. The platform’s automated "Budget vs Actual" dashboards, digital Measurement Books, and instantaneous BOQ limit-checks strip away the tedious manual spreadsheet number-crunching, allowing the QS to focus on high-level cost control and value engineering.
