Definition

Quick Setting Cement is a specialized chemical variant of Portland cement. By reducing the percentage of gypsum (which normally retards setting) and adding specific chemical accelerators (like aluminum sulfate), this cement can achieve its initial set in as little as 5 minutes and final set in 30 minutes, compared to the hours required for normal OPC.

Practical Example

During the construction of a deep basement, the contractor strikes an underground aquifer, and water begins pouring rapidly through a crack in the retaining wall. Standard cement would wash away immediately. The team mixes a small batch of Quick Setting Cement and plugs the hole; it hardens into a solid, waterproof rock in just 5 minutes, stopping the leak instantly.

Application in Superwise

Specialized materials like Quick Setting Cement are expensive and bought in small quantities. Site engineers use Superwise’s Material Indent feature to specifically request this item under an "Emergency Repairs" Cost Code, ensuring the high cost is tracked and justified against the specific retaining wall WBS task.
